A Republican who went to school with Kennedy scion Jack Schlossberg <\/a>is entering the race to replace longtime Rep. Jerry Nadler in a deeply Manhattan congressional district.<\/p>\n

Caroline Shinkle, a corporate lawyer with degrees from MIT and Harvard Law, enters a race for the highly coveted New York\u2019s District 12 seat <\/a>that already includes a long list of Democrats including Schlossberg, the grandson of former President John F. Kennedy and son of Caroline Kennedy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m in it to win it. I\u2019m here to provide voters a real choice on the ballot,\u201d Shinkle, 33, told The Post. \u201cWe\u2019re fighting to preserve Manhattan and New York City.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019ll be an uphill battle for a Republican in the district, which stretches from the East Side to West Side of Manhattan and includes Times Square, the Midtown business district and Museum Mile.<\/p>\n

But Shinkle said she would provide a much needed alternative to the Democrat candidates as the party veers way to the left.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile others focus on \u2018The Resistance,\u2019 I will focus on results,\u201d she said. \u201cWhether it is keeping our borders secure to end the undocumented migrant crisis that has strained our city\u2019s budget to the breaking point or ending the soft-on-crime policies that have emboldened repeat offenders, I will bring an economist\u2019s precision and a lawyer\u2019s grit to Washington.\u201d<\/p>\n

New York is suffering from \u201ca crisis of competence,\u201d she said \u2014 and pointed the finger at the Big Apple\u2019s new mayor, proud democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a mayoral administration captivated by radical ideologies and a congressional delegation focused on obstruction rather than delivery,\u201d Shinkle said. \u201cI am running to be the common-sense antidote to the policies that have made our streets less safe and our city unaffordable for the people who work for a living.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Manhattan GOP\u2019s leadership was expected to endorse Shinkle this week, while state Conservative Party chairman Jerry Kassar said his party also plans to back her in the election.<\/p>\n

Five other Republicans have submitted paperwork to run in the race, according to federal filings, but it\u2019s unclear if they were mounting serious runs.<\/p>\n

Shinkle said she wouldn\u2019t be afraid to shake things up and would push to abolish the federal income tax on W-2 wages because \u201cthe government has to shrink.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also supports exempting the interest on student loan repayments from taxes.<\/p>\n

Shinkle spent time in Jerusalem working for the Bank of Israel while at MIT, and stressed she\u2019s a staunch supporter of the Jewish states while many Democrats activists and some politicians have turned against America\u2019s chief ally in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

\u201cI refuse to be a passive spectator to our city\u2019s decline,\u201d Shinkle said.<\/p>\n

Aside from Schlossberg \u2014 whom Shinkle crossed paths with in school \u2014 other contenders seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat include apparent frontrunner, state Assemblyman Micah Lasher.<\/a><\/p>\n

Lasher is backed by several local Democratic clubs and elected officials including Nadler \u2014 who decided not to seek re-election to the seat. Nadler, 78, was first elected in 1992.<\/p>\n
