The woman \u2014 who asked to have her identity concealed \u2014 watched those 19 News reports and agreed to speak with the reporter.<\/p>\n
She says she was assaulted last September by former Brooklyn Police<\/a> Sergeant Paul Stein.<\/p>\n It happened while she was restrained in a chair at the police station.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was hard to believe that that was actually me,\u201d the woman said.<\/p>\n Bodycam footage shows assault<\/p>\n Exclusive bodycam footage obtained by 19 Investigates shows what happened leading up to the incident.<\/p>\n On September 4, 2025, Brooklyn police arrested the woman on an outstanding warrant for aggravated menacing. <\/p>\n At the time, they said she was drunk and belligerent.<\/p>\n When she arrived at the station, she was immediately surrounded by seven officers \u2014 they strapped her ankles to a restraint chair while her hands were cuffed behind her back. <\/p>\n Stein stood directly over her, using his hands to pin back both of her shoulders.<\/p>\n \u201cThe police officer strapped me to a chair and held me down, while one large police officer crushed my feet with his boots.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cI was in a lot of pain, and I did not have shoes on,\u201d the woman said.<\/p>\n The video appears to show Stein using his full weight to stand on top of the woman\u2019s stocking feet \u2014 while they rested on the chair\u2019s metal pedals.<\/p>\n She can be heard hollering at Stein several times to get off.<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re hurting me. Get off my feet a$$&ole,\u201d the woman said in the video.<\/p>\n When Stein didn\u2019t move, she spat in his face. <\/p>\n The video then shows the officer quickly slapping the woman\u2019s face with an open hand, then punching her four times in the jaw with a closed fist.<\/p>\n A female officer behind the woman can be seen reacting to the outburst.<\/p>\n Attorney calls for de-escalation<\/p>\n The woman hired attorney Keith Hansbrough<\/a>, who said the officer\u2019s actions were both aggressive and excessive.<\/p>\n \u201cIt wasn\u2019t necessary to step on her bare feet with his 250 pounds of weight and his boots \u2014 to crush her for three minutes \u2014 while she was screaming in pain and no one did anything,\u201d Hansbrough said.<\/p>\n \u201cThey let it happen.\u201d <\/p>\n When asked if he felt Stein provoked the situation, Hansbrough said the officer had a duty to de-escalate it.<\/p>\n \u201cNot only did Paul Stein fail that duty, he actually escalated the situation,\u201d Hansbrough said.<\/p>\n Officer fired and charged<\/p>\n In September, Police Chief Scott Mielke investigated the incident and fired Stein. <\/p>\n A special prosecutor was asked to review the case and earlier this month he charged Stein with one count of misdemeanor assault. <\/p>\n Court records show Stein has since pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n The woman believes he should have faced more serious consequences.<\/p>\n \u201cA felony,\u201d she said when asked what Stein should have been charged with.<\/p>\n Stein\u2019s pre-trial hearing is set for March 2. <\/p>\n The woman\u2019s attorney plans to file a lawsuit against Stein and the police department this summer.<\/p>\n He also plans to file suit on behalf of the Maple Heights man who claims he was also assaulted<\/a> by Stein last year.<\/p>\n Attempts to reach Stein and his attorney for comment were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n![\"Woman](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/AV56LYPHNJFEBOUALPHKRR2X3Q.jpg\")
