{"id":143956,"date":"2026-02-24T18:01:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T18:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/143956\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T18:01:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T18:01:09","slug":"2026-nysphsaa-wrestling-individual-championships-schedule-brackets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/143956\/","title":{"rendered":"2026 NYSPHSAA Wrestling Individual Championships Schedule &#038; Brackets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The capital city of the state of New York is about to serve an important second role as the center of the state\u2019s high school wrestling world.<\/p>\n<p>The best high school wrestlers in the Empire State are headed back to MVP Arena in Albany, New York, and the mightiest will return home as the newest state champions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 New York State Public High School Athletic Association Wrestling Individual Championships will take place Feb. 26-28, and all of the action will unfold live on FloWrestling and the FloSports app.<\/p>\n<p>MVP Arena, which has hosted the individual championships since 2022, is considered one of the premier sports and entertainment facilities in Upstate New York, and there\u2019s seating space for 6,000-17,500 guests, depending on the configuration for each show or event.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The opening day of competition, Feb. 26, will belong entirely to the hopeful female wrestlers battling through the second edition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flowrestling.org\/nextgen\/events\/14855901\/information\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Individual Championships<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve already fought their way through the regular season and sectional competition. Now, it\u2019s time to try to add their names to the record book of one of the fastest-growing high school sports in the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>See who won in each of the 13 weight classes at the inaugural event last season: <a href=\"https:\/\/nysphsaa.org\/documents\/2025\/3\/6\/Past_Champions_Girls_Wrestling.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">2025 NYSPHSAA Girls Individual Wrestling State Championships winners.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Feb. 27-28, the spotlight will shine on the boys, who will compete across 13 weight classes and two divisions \u2013 Division 1, Division 2 \u2013 after having placed in their sectional events.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>From each division, the top two sections, based on a Power Points calculation, qualified three wrestlers per weight class for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flowrestling.org\/nextgen\/events\/14608086\/information\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">2026 NYSPHSAA Boys Individual Wrestling State Championships<\/a>. Consolation Semifinals2:15 p.m. \u2013 Consolation Finals (arena cleared after)<\/p>\n<p>Session 3<\/p>\n<p>5:15 p.m. \u2013 Doors open5:50 p.m. \u2013 Finals Open Ceremony6:05 p.m. \u2013 Finals beginWho Won At The 2025 NYSPHSAA Wrestling Individual Championships?When Was The 2026 NYSPHSAA Wrestling Dual Meet Championships?<\/p>\n<p>The eighth edition of the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Dual Meet Championships saw two dozen of the state\u2019s top high school wrestling teams head north for an intense day of competition Jan. 31.<\/p>\n<p>The event returned to the SRC Arena on the campus of Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York, where it has been held each year since the inaugural edition in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>All of the action from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flowrestling.org\/nextgen\/events\/14855929\/information?said=030717f4-6e36-4d68-8d30-4f80ed3b41ba\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">2026 NYSPHSAA Wrestling Dual Meet Championships<\/a> was streamed live on FloWrestling and the FloSports app.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The format at the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Dual Meet Championships traditionally features 24 teams competing in two divisions, with those programs coming from the 11 NYSPHSAA sections.<\/p>\n<p>Nine of the sections send teams to compete in Division 1, and 10 sections qualify teams for Division 2. Then, there are three at-large entries for Division 1 and one for Division 2.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Every team is tested in three matches of pool play, with the top four teams in each division advancing to the semifinals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here are the 14 weight classes for NYSPHSAA dual competition: 103, 110, 118, 126, 132, 138, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190, 215, 285<\/p>\n<p>Did You Know: High School Wrestling In New York State Began In 1963<\/p>\n<p>While the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Dual Meet Championships is only a few years old, being held for the first time in 2018, the NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling Individual Championships has been taking place since 1963.<\/p>\n<p>The format of the latter event has changed over the years, and since 2004, it has awarded 26 state championships \u2013 13 in each division.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Almost all of the most dominant high school wrestlers in the state\u2019s history have come since the turn of the century. Four wrestlers have won five state championships. Another 11 have won four times.
