DEER PARK, N.Y. (News12 Long Island) – Authorities in New York said a man\u2019s body was found buried in the snow at a complex in Deer Park for people 55 and older.<\/p>\n
This comes as parts of the Northeast are dealing with the aftermath of a blizzard that has left waist-high snowbanks in some areas.<\/p>\n
Crews digging out of the blizzard made the shocking discovery.<\/p>\n
A neighbor, who didn\u2019t want to be identified, said she heard the commotion.<\/p>\n
\u201cI heard the shoveling, so what I did was I came to the door,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd they\u2019re telling me, \u2018There\u2019s a dead man in the snow.\u2019 I go, \u2018What?!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Police said the man was found dead just before 4 p.m. Monday.<\/p>\n
One of the workers contracted to shovel the complex said he saw the body.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe guy, he was working like this. He touched it. He says, \u2018What happened, what\u2019s that?\u2019 Then you see the head there,\u201d another unidentified neighbor said.<\/p>\n
Police have not identified the victim and would only say he was male.<\/p>\n
Neighbors said they believe they know who it is. They said he lives in the complex near where he was found.<\/p>\n
As the residents dealt with the death, they were also dealing with the piles of snow still unplowed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s unacceptable,\u201d one neighbor said.<\/p>\n
The snow was nearly waist-high in some parts of the complex Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Residents of the complex said the unshoveled and unplowed snow is a safety concern, where in some cases the snow is blocking their front doors and they\u2019re unable to get out of their homes.<\/p>\n
Frank Daconta, 62, struggled to get to and from his home.<\/p>\n
\u201cA man, he\u2019s literally trapped, he\u2019s in a wheelchair and the snow is over, it\u2019s about 5 feet in front of his door. Five feet high,\u201d Daconta said.<\/p>\n
Resident Eddie Velasquez was unable to open his door.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t even squeeze through here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
As of Monday night, there had been no comment from the building\u2019s property manager.<\/p>\n
