Adams was joined by faith leaders and other City Council members when she blasted the Trump administration\u2019s immigration raid in Lower Manhattan.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor months now, the Trump administration has been attacking our city in ways that undermine our public safety and working-class families, as it has been doing across our country. That is not leadership,\u201d Adams said. \u201cIt is un-American for the president to deploy the military on its own people.\u201d<\/p>\n
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested nine vendors on Tuesday and five demonstrators. Rep. Dan Goldman said his office intervened to help get four U.S. citizens released without charges that ICE had arrested while they were protesting the operation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe understand from others that they have now been released,\u201d Goldman said. \u201cWe asked both what the rationale was to arrest them and keep them overnight and also asked them sternly to release them. We\u2019re happy they are now released, but we have a lot more questions.\u201d<\/p>\n
Goldman said his office is now building a task force to address potential future ICE raids. The announcement comes after he sent a letter to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch asking the NYPD to protect New Yorkers from unlawful actions by federal agents.<\/p>\n
