WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 President Donald Trump gave New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani a shoutout during his State of the Union address<\/a>, calling him a \u201cnice guy\u201d with bad policy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new communist mayor of New York City, I think he’s a nice guy, actually,\u201d Trump said during the speech.<\/p>\n

He also said that he speaks to Mamdani a lot.<\/p>\n

\u201cI speak to him a lot,\u201d the president said. <\/p>\n

\u201cBad policy, but nice guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, Mamdani said in an interview that he texts with Trump since they had a meeting in November.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe gave me his number,\u201d Mamdani said, according to The Hill newspaper<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ll say that the conversations between the president and I are private, and I\u2019ll keep them there. But they are always back to the question of New Yorkers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year, Trump and Mamdani met at the White House, where Trump said it was a great meeting.<\/p>\n

We’ve just had a great meeting — a really good, very productive meeting,\u201d Trump said afterwards<\/a>. \u201cWe have one thing in common: we want this city of ours that we love to do very well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mamdani said the meeting was productive.<\/p>\n
