STATEN ISLAND (WABC) — Sanitation crews will continue their efforts to clear every street in Staten Island after the borough was slammed with nearly 30 inches of snow.<\/p>\n
But the big question is: where will they put it?<\/p>\n
Those in the borough have tried their best to clear their property as the city struggled to get certain roads cleared and treated.<\/p>\n
Narrow streets made it extremely difficult to navigate, prompting the mayor to send 100 pieces of equipment and additional personnel to get the job done.<\/p>\n
Thursday morning, crews will begin the process of hitting areas of Staten Island, picking up and loading dump trucks with piles of snow.<\/p>\n
From there, they’ll come to a location in Midland Beach, where the snow will be melted through giant snow melter machines.<\/p>\n
The location is extremely important because the work has to be done near an adequate sewage line.<\/p>\n
This was done during the last storm to get rid of excess snow, and it’ll happen again so the city can thaw out.<\/p>\n
This same process will happen in other parts of the borough, as there are seven melters across the city.<\/p>\n
On Staten Island, crews will try to work efficiently, especially with Sunday’s traditional St. Patrick’s Day Parade approaching, when streets will have to be clear for both participants and spectators.<\/p>\n

Trash collection: Resumed Wednesday at 6 p.m., with delays expected due to volume.
Recycling: Resumes next Monday.
Alternate side parking: Suspended through the end of the week.
Libraries and city buildings: Fully open<\/p>\n
