(NEW YORK CITY) – Full-time Contingent Faculty at New York University – represented by Contract Faculty United\u2013United Auto Workers (CFU-UAW) Local 7902, have voted to approve a Strike Authorization after more than a year of negotiations for their first contract. Non-Tenure Track Instructors have met with administrators 24 times in the past 15 months, but have yet to receive compelling proposals around compensation, job security, childcare, academic freedom and other core concerns. \u201cWe think the vote results make clear that a super-majority of all contract faculty are ready to take this (Strike) step,\u201d said Elisabeth Fay, a member of the Union\u2019s Bargaining Committee. \u201cWe\u2019re feeling confident and really determined to win this contract that our Members are asking for. We\u2019ve been able to bring more contract faculty into this process, and now more Faculty are standing together to call for better contract terms.\u201d The Union plans to hold another five-hour bargaining session with administrators on Friday (February 27th).\u00a0Since the CFU-UAW first threatened to Strike in a December letter to administrators, NYU has repeatedly offered to hire a mediator – which the Union rejected, instead urging administrators\u00a0to bring more counterproposals.\u00a0<\/p>\n
