A new comedy club is coming to Greenpoint this spring and it\u2019s built by someone who\u2019s spent the last 15 years figuring out exactly what New York\u2019s scene needs.<\/p>\n
NYC stand-up mainstay Jeremy Pinsly and his wife and business partner, Kayla Pinsly, are opening Greenpoint Comedy Club, a 2,000-square-foot venue at 66 Greenpoint Avenue, designed as a space \u201cfor comics, by a comic.\u201d The bar is slated to open in late March,\u00a0with a grand opening weekend set for April 10 and 11 featuring comedy acts, music, food and more.<\/p>\n
If you\u2019ve spent any time bouncing between basement showcases and backroom bar sets, you know the vibe that the Pinslys are chasing. Over the years,\u00a0Jeremy has produced shows all over, from traditional comedy clubs to speakeasies, a boxing gym and even a brownstone in Cobble Hill, where his monthly series sold out consistently for two years. Most recently, he ran shows at Friends in Low Places on Broadway and other venues across Nashville before returning his focus to New York. With Greenpoint Comedy Club, he\u2019s channeling that experience into a permanent home base.<\/p>\n
The mission,\u00a0Jeremy says, is \u201cto run the highest quality show possible while also giving younger comics a chance to get their start.\u201d That means investing in top-tier lighting and A\/V systems, designing a room that works for both performers and audiences and creating a space where comedians can do regular spots, headline and even record specials.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But it\u2019s not just about what happens on stage. The Pinslys are also intent on bringing \u201cthe hang\u201d back to comedy. Instead of ushering crowds out as soon as the last punchline lands, Greenpoint Comedy Club is designed as a place to spend the whole evening. The thoughtfully laid-out bar room\u2014curated by mixologist and industry veteran Dory Greenberg\u2014will serve expertly crafted cocktails from afternoon through 2am, with ample seating and a speakeasy-style atmosphere that encourages mingling before and after shows.<\/p>\n
Beyond stand-up, the club plans to host live music, writing workshops and even after-school programs, positioning itself as a creative hub for the neighborhood.<\/p>\n
