{"id":146927,"date":"2026-02-27T02:39:28","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T02:39:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/146927\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T02:39:28","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T02:39:28","slug":"womens-hoops-drops-tight-one-to-iona","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/146927\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s Hoops Drops Tight One To Iona"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>                    &#13;<br \/>\n                        &#13;<br \/>\n &#13;<\/p>\n<p>NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.\u00a0\u2013 The Manhattan Jaspers women&#8217;s basketball team (9-19, 9-10\u00a0MAAC), despite the first 30 point outing by a Jasper this season from <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/brianna-davis\/11804\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11804\" target=\"_blank\">Brianna Davis<\/a>,\u00a0dropped its conference contest\u00a0against the Gaels from Iona\u00a0(19-11, 12-8\u00a0MAAC) by a final score\u00a0of 65-59 inside Hynes Athletic Center\u00a0on Thursday evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>HOW IT HAPPENED<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tA trio of Davis, Agar Farr\u00e9s Garcia, and Hana M\u00fchl tallied the first six points of the evening, with M\u00fchl&#8217;s\u00a0jumper giving the visitors a brief lead midway through the frame.&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe Gaels bursted out on a 10-2 run to take a six point edge by the three minute mark of the opening quarter.&#13;<br \/>\n\tAs the two sides exchanged deep shots before the first quarter horn, Iona took a four point edge into the second.&#13;<br \/>\n\tIt was the hosts who stretched out their advantage to double digits, following a layup from Isabellah Middleton.&#13;<br \/>\n\tDavis converted a pair from the stripe just before the break, with the Gaels now holding an eight point margin headed into the locker room.&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe Bronx, N.Y. native scored eight of the 12 points from the Green and White throughout the whole third quarter, as the Jaspers faced a 12 point deficit going to the final quarter.&#13;<br \/>\n\tSeven unanswered points came by the way of the road team to kick off the fourth, capped off by yet another Davis jumper.\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\tFarr\u00e9s Garcia pulled up from about 10 feet away from the basket with around five minutes to play, knocking down the crucial shot to bring Manhattan within three.&#13;<br \/>\n\tAt 55 all, two free throws from Farr\u00e9s Garcia tied the game for the first time since 4-4 in the first quarter.&#13;<br \/>\n\tWhile the game was within two in the final 30 seconds, the free throw game was won by Iona, giving them their 12th and final win in the regular season.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>STATS AND NOTES<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tSenior guard <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/brianna-davis\/11804\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11804\" target=\"_blank\">Brianna Davis<\/a> set a new career-high with 30 points on 10-for-16 shooting.
