(CNN) \u2014 A New York grandfather will be allowed to keep his custom license plate that the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) had deemed \u201cobjectionable.\u201d<\/p>\n
Seth Bykofsky\u2019s custom license plate \u201cP-B-4-WE-GO\u201d is a lighthearted reminder before a road trip.<\/p>\n
But last month, he got a letter from the DMV saying he \u201cmust destroy\u201d the plate and replace it with a new, standard one.<\/p>\n
The DMV had cited the commissioner\u2019s rules and regulations that prohibit license plates considered to be \u201cderogatory, contemptuous, degrading, disrespectful or inflammatory.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bykofsky pushed back, taking to social media and calling on state officials to reconsider.<\/p>\n
The story caught the attention of Gov. Kathy Hochul, who intervened on his behalf.<\/p>\n
Hochul called Bykofsky herself to apologize for the inconvenience, and she gave him the good news that he would be allowed to keep the plate.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve got a couple of little granddaughters, and I\u2019ll be reminding them of the lesson that you\u2019re sharing with all of us on your license plates,\u201d Hochul said during the phone call. \u201cSo, uh, well done. I\u2019m sorry for the inconvenience, and I\u2019m glad we can put things right again, and I\u2019ll settle that very soon with you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bykofsky thanked the governor and added, \u201cYou always come through for New Yorkers.\u201d<\/p>\n
