President Trump abruptly called off trade negotiations with Canada on Thursday after the Ontario government funded an anti-tariff ad campaign, featuring the voice of Ronald Reagan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs,\u201d Trump wrote in a late night Truth Social.<\/p>\n

The president said the $75 million ad was made \u201cto interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts\u201d in cases challenging Trump\u2019s authority to issue tariffs.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cTARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A,\u201d Trump argued.<\/p>\n

\u201cBased on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED,\u201d he declared. \u201cThank you for your attention to this matter!\u201d<\/p>\n

Ontario Premier Doug Ford\u00a0unveiled the 1-minute ad<\/a>\u00a0last week, which uses audio of Reagan suggesting that tariffs don\u2019t work in the long term.<\/p>\n

\u201cUsing every tool we have, we\u2019ll never stop making the case against American tariffs on Canada. The way to prosperity is by working together,\u201d Ford said of the ad campaign.<\/p>\n

The ad will air on Newsmax, Bloomberg, Fox News, Fox Sports, NBC, CBS, CNBC, ESPN, ABC and local stations in\u00a0the US, according to the\u00a0CBC<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As Trump noted, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute accused the government of Ontario of misrepresenting the 40th president\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n

The ad campaign uses \u201cselective audio and video of President Ronald Reagan delivering his \u2018Radio Address to the Nation on Free and Fair Trade,\u2019 dated April 25, 1987,\u201d the foundation said in a\u00a0statement<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ad misrepresents the Presidential Radio Address, and the Government of Ontario did not seek nor receive permission to use and edit the remarks,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cThe Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is reviewing its legal options in this matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump has imposed a 35% tariff on most Canadian goods, arguing that Canada has failed to stop the flow of illicit fentanyl and other drugs into the US.<\/p>\n
