STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Taking a few extra seconds at a stop sign to check for oncoming traffic could make all the difference in avoiding a potential crash.<\/p>\n
One Staten Island driver may have learned that lesson the hard way; a dash cam recently caught two cars narrowly avoiding a collision in South Beach. <\/p>\n
The footage, submitted to the Advance\/SILive.com, shows a silver SUV approaching a stop sign at Foch Avenue, near the Hickory Avenue intersection, during the evening rush hour on Wednesday, Oct. 1.<\/p>\n
At the same time, a white Tesla is seen approaching the same intersection on Hickory Avenue, heading toward Olympia Boulevard \u2014 a direction that does not have a stop sign. <\/p>\n
As the SUV approaches the Foch Avenue stop sign, the driver does not come to a full stop, and quickly accelerates into the intersection. <\/p>\n
After suddenly seeing the Tesla, the SUV driver slams on the brakes, avoiding what could\u2019ve been a serious T-bone collision by only a few feet. <\/p>\n
The SUV driver then reverses out of the intersection and waits for the Tesla to move before continuing along Foch Avenue.<\/p>\n
