The New York Police Department said it was increasing security in the city as a precautionary measure following the U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran early Saturday.<\/p>\n

NEW YORK \u2014 The New York Police Department said it was increasing security at sensitive locations across the city on Saturday following the U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran and rising tensions across Middle East.<\/p>\n

In a statement posted on social media,<\/a> the department said it was \u201cclosely monitoring events in Iran and the Middle East\u201d and coordinating with federal and international partners.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs is our protocol and out of an abundance of caution, we will be enhancing patrols to sensitive locations throughout the city, including diplomatic, cultural, religious, and other relevant sites,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n

Officials emphasized there were no specific or credible threats to New York City at this time. However, authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity by calling 1-888-NYC-SAFE or 911.<\/p>\n

The increased patrols follow President Donald Trump\u2019s announcement Saturday that the U.S. had launched \u201cmajor combat operations\u201d against Iran in coordination with Israel. U.S. officials said the strikes targeted military and government sites.<\/p>\n

The joint operation has sparked threats of retaliation from Iran and heightened tensions across the region, with reports of missile and drone launches in parts of the Middle East.<\/p>\n

U.S. embassies and consulates in several countries have advised staff to shelter in place as the situation develops.<\/p>\n
