This love story was over before it even began.<\/p>\n

A New York City bachelor cancelled a date with a woman who told him she\u2019d need to leave by 9:30 p.m. to attend a friend\u2019s birthday party.<\/p>\n

The man \u2014 who goes by the moniker \u201cMurray Hill Guy\u201d online \u2014 said he \u201cdodged a bullet\u201d in a viral X post that divided viewers. <\/a><\/p>\n

The bachelor\u2019s date let him know that she would need to leave by 9:30 p.m., prompting some to see the message as a \u201cred flag.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you got this an hour before a first date on a Friday night, would you cancel?\u201d he wrote beneath a screenshot of a text message from his prospective love interest.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey,\u201d the woman wrote at 5:58 p.m. \u201cExcited to meet for a drink\u2026 Just wanted to say I have a friend\u2019s birthday party at 9:30 p.m. so will have to wrap up before then! See you soon!\u201d<\/p>\n

Some said it was a \u201cred flag\u201d that she was putting a time constraint on the date and claimed that the fact she messaged shortly before the date suggested that she was bad with planning and time management.<\/p>\n

Others said she had more nefarious motives.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s just trying to kill time and maybe get a couple pregame drinks in before she does what she actually wants to do. No thanks,\u201d one man stated. <\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s most offensive about this is she says you have to \u2018wrap up.\u2019 So this is something she isn\u2019t excited about, but something to endure,\u201d another claimed. <\/a><\/p>\n

However, many leapt to the woman\u2019s defence, saying it was totally acceptable for her to have an \u201cout\u201d for an evening and that she was giving the man an ample amount of her time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy would this bother you? You arranged a meetup drink. You aren\u2019t entitled to her whole evening, \u201d one scolded<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat she\u2019s doing is giving herself an escape hatch. If she likes him, he\u2019s going to that party with her. If not, there\u2019s a polite \u2018end of round\u2019 bell,\u201d a second theorized. <\/a><\/p>\n

The man ended up responding to the woman, asking her to reschedule.<\/p>\n

He shared a screenshot of her reply, which read: \u201cIt\u2019s pretty rude to cancel on someone 30 minutes before! I took the time do my makeup, outfit, and get ready\u2026 I\u2019m dating intentionally and 2 hours is more than enough time to get to know someone for a first date so not sure what you were thinking!\u201d<\/p>\n
