Earlier in the day, Tisser described running to shelter multiple times as explosions were heard overhead.<\/p>\n\u201cI\u2019ve been in shelter three times today, and I\u2019ve heard explosions over me,\u201d Tisser said.<\/p>\n
Following confirmation of the death of Khamenei, Tisser said many people around him reacted with celebration.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople are happy. People I\u2019ve spoken to are cheering. It\u2019s great news to everyone,\u201d he said. But not everyone was welcoming the development.<\/p>\n
Some voiced concern about the broader implications of escalating tensions in the region and the possibility of further conflict.<\/p>\n
National Deputy Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Edward Ahmed Mitchell said many Americans are deeply troubled by the situation and are urging restraint.<\/p>\n
\u201cI, like many Americans, am deeply disturbed by this. We are calling on Congress to bring an end to this before more innocent people die,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n
He added that the Iranian people should be able to choose and elect their own leaders without foreign interference or internal oppression. <\/p>\n
On Long Island, officials in Nassau and Suffolk counties say there will be an increased police presence throughout the region, including at places of worship, as a precaution amid heightened tensions.<\/p>\n
