Authorities say a 12-year-old boy was stabbed inside a school in Mt. Eden on Monday.<\/p>\n
Police sources tell News 12 that an 11-year-old girl was taken into custody.<\/p>\n
The attack happened inside P.S.\/I.S. 218 Rafael Hernandez Dual Language Magnet School just after 11 a.m. Officers discovered the boy with a stab wound to his left arm.<\/p>\n
EMS took him to NYC Health + Hospitals\/Lincoln, where he is expected to recover.<\/p>\n
Police sources say a kitchen knife was used in the attack.<\/p>\n
The Department of Education says the school will provide counseling and mental health support to the school community and work closely with students, staff, and families to address the incident.<\/p>\n
DOE issued the following statement:<\/p>\n
“This act of violence is unacceptable and deeply concerning. Immediately following this incident, EMS and NYPD quickly arrived on site to ensure the safety and well-being of impacted students. We will be working closely with the school community to ensure all necessary supports are provided.”<\/p>\n
