{"id":150509,"date":"2026-03-03T02:35:24","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T02:35:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/150509\/"},"modified":"2026-03-03T02:35:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T02:35:24","slug":"nypd-sergeant-arrested-for-taconic-state-parkway-crash-that-killed-man-new-york-ag-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/150509\/","title":{"rendered":"NYPD sergeant arrested for Taconic State Parkway crash that killed man, New York AG says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A New York City police sergeant has been arrested for allegedly driving drunk and killing a man on the Taconic State Parkway while off-duty.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>New York Attorney General Letitia James said Monday that Tiffany Howell, 47, was <a href=\"https:\/\/ag.ny.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/court-filings\/new-york-v-tiffany-howell-indictment-2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">indicted<\/a> on multiple charges connected to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/taconic-state-parkway-crash-nypd-officer-injured\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the crash on Jan. 22<\/a> in Mount Pleasant.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Off-duty NYPD sergeant arraigned<\/p>\n<p>Howell, of Warwick, was arraigned in Westchester County Court for aggravated vehicular homicide, second degree manslaughter, first degree vehicular manslaughter and two counts of second degree manslaughter, the attorney general&#8217;s office said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of the top charge, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/taconic-wrong-way-accid-wcbsgzlb-hi-res-still.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"taconic-wrong-way-accid-wcbsgzlb-hi-res-still.jpg \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  NYPD Sgt. Tiffany Howell<\/p>\n<p>                CBS News New York<\/p>\n<p>According to New York State Police, Howell was driving the wrong way when she crashed head-on with another vehicle in the northbound lanes of the parkway. The attorney general&#8217;s office said she was going more than 50 mph at the time and caused fatal injuries to the other driver, 61-year-old Manuel Boitel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Howell suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, officials said.
