A ghoulish musical comedy immortalizing the alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO gunman<\/a>, Luigi Mangione, <\/a>will premiere in New York City \u2014 the real-life setting of the shocking assassination \u2014 this summer. <\/p>\n

\u201cLuigi: The Musical\u201d will take the stage at The Green Room 42 in Midtown West<\/a> on June 15 \u2014 a mere 20-minute subway ride from where Mangione allegedly gunned down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside of a Hilton Hotel in December 2024. <\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cLuigi: The Musical,\u201d a musical comedy immortalizing Luigi Mangione, is set to premiere in New York City this June. REUTERS<\/p>\n

The twisted \u201csatirical\u201d comedy provides a \u201cbold, campy and unafraid\u201d take on the accused assassin\u2019s life in lockdown while on trial for the muder of the dad of two. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s marketed as \u201ca tale of love, murder, and hashbrowns,\u201d a reference to Mangione scarfing down the McDonald\u2019s menu item before his arrest in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

The show \u2014 which claims to \u201cinterrogate\u201d rather than \u201cglorify\u201d violence \u2014 originally premiered in San Francisco in 2025 to sold-out crowds.<\/p>\n

The cast of the Big Apple premiere has not yet been announced. Representatives for \u201cLuigi: The Musical\u201d did not immediately respond to The Post\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

\u201cLuigi\u201d is the brainchild of songwriter Arielle Johnson and director Nova Bradford, who said the idea came from an idea \u201cscribbled on a napkin at the SF Eagle.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLuigi: the Musical uses comedy to bring deeper questions to the surface,\u201d Bradford said in a statement on the musical\u2019s website. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhy did this case garner the reaction that it did? And what happens when people stop trusting their institutions?\u201d Bradford added. <\/p>\n

The musical features convicted crypto fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried and disgraced hip-hop mogul Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs as Mangione\u2019s wacky jailhouse companions at Brooklyn\u2019s Metropolitan Detention Center.<\/p>\n

The trio navigates \u201cfriendship, justice, and the absurdity of viral fame\u201d through a set of musical numbers \u2014 including \u201cThe Cheapest Room in Brooklyn\u201d and the track \u201cBay Area Baby\u201d sung by Bankman-Fried. <\/p>\n

\u201cLuigi: the Musical doesn\u2019t glorify violence, it interrogates it. Beneath the absurdity and punchlines lies a serious critique of how violence is packaged, sold, and consumed in American media,\u201d said a description for the show.<\/p>\n

The musical is marketed as \u201ca tale of love, murder, and hashbrowns.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe show takes aim at a culture where brutality is both entertainment and spectacle, inviting audiences to laugh while also asking why we\u2019re so quick to tune in when someone gets hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle<\/a>, Bradford sought to head off obvious criticism about mining such macabre subject matter for a tongue-in-cheek musical.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not valorizing any of these characters, and we\u2019re also not trivializing any of their actions or alleged actions,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Mangione faces life in prison at his upcoming murder trial in state court set for June if convicted of fatally shooting Thompson in a targeted hit on a Midtown sidewalk. <\/p>\n

He will still face life in prison at his separate federal trial \u2014 slated to start in September \u2014 after prosecutors announced they will not appeal a judge\u2019s decision to take the death penalty off the table<\/a> for the 27-year-old accused killer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mangione won\u2019t technically be charged with murder in the federal case, and will instead face a charge of \u201cstalking\u201d Thompson, leading to the father-of-two\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
