That\u2019s not \u201cin\u201d but it is an improvement over the previous bracketology.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Kansas State is 11-18, 2-14 in conference, playing out the rest of the season under interim head coach Matthew Driscoll following Jerome Tang\u2019s firing on February 15th. The Wildcats won their first game under Driscoll \u2014 an impressive 90-74 home win over Baylor \u2014 but have dropped three straight since, including a 77-68 home loss to TCU on Saturday where the Wildcats turned the ball over 18 times. This is their last home game of the season.<\/p>\n The Game Within The Game<\/p>\n It starts and ends with PJ Haggerty. The junior guard is averaging 23.3 points per game \u2014 third in the country, behind only BYU\u2019s AJ Dybantsa and East Carolina\u2019s Jordan Riley. The Mountaineers just held Dybantsa five points below his season average on Saturday. West Virginia will look to follow a similar gameplan tonight: make everyone else beat you, don\u2019t let Haggerty take over, stay the course when he makes his runs.<\/p>\n Haggerty scored 16 in the first meeting \u2014 all of them in the second half. He\u2019s shooting nearly 50% from the floor on a two conference-win team. Everybody has a game plan for him and he\u2019s still doing it. Jasper Floyd will likely be assigned to keeping Haggerty in check. How Floyd manages his foul situation matters as much as anything he does defensively.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n There is one wildcard to watch as K-State wing Abdi Bashir Jr. has been out over a month with a stress fracture. The original recovery timeline puts him back around now. If he suits up, that\u2019s a 44.4% three-point shooter averaging 13.2 points per game that didn\u2019t play in the first meeting between the Mountaineers and Wildcats.<\/p>\n The keys to the game are pretty simple: get to the free throw line, win the rebounding battle and don\u2019t let Haggerty take over the game. The Mountaineers are 15-4 this season when they shoot more free throws than their opponent and 2-7 when they don\u2019t. The formula works when they run it.<\/p>\n Series History<\/p>\n West Virginia leads the all-time series 17-13, with the first meeting dating back to December 12, 1949 \u2014 a 49-44 Kansas State win in Morgantown. WVU is 4-9 all-time at Bramlage Coliseum, with wins coming in 2021, 2018, 2016, and 2015. Bramlage is also the only Big 12 road venue WVU has played in every season since joining the conference.<\/p>\n The most recent meeting was January 27 in Morgantown, a 59-54 WVU win.
