Three hero Austin cops who put their lives on the line to stop a maniac\u2019s deadly shooting rampage<\/a> are expected to face a grand-jury investigation thanks to a George Floyd-era policy.<\/p>\n

Texas lawyer Doug O\u2019Connell, whose firm O\u2019Connell West has been tapped to represent the officers at the behest of the Austin Police Association, told The Post on Tuesday that such mandatory reviews are the brainchild of Austin District Attorney Jos\u00e9 Garza<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ndiaga Diagne (above) opened fire outside a crowded bar in Austin, Texas, and killed three people, wounded more than a dozen. X\/@BillMelugin_<\/p>\n

\u201cThe district attorney, at the direction of the Wren Collective, insists on presenting every officer involved shooting to a grand jury,\u2019\u2019 O\u2019Connell said, referencing a shadowy and influential left-wing Austin-based criminal-justice reform group.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe that our clients will face this same process,\u201d the lawyer said.<\/p>\n

Garza instituted the requirement when he took office in 2021 \u2014 just a few months after Floyd\u2019s killing at the hands of a Minnesota cop roiled the nation and sparked drastic changes in scores of police departments across the US.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connell criticized the procedure as lacking transparency.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrand juries in Texas are secret, meaning only the prosecutors are in the room.\u00a0 The prosecutors control what evidence the grand jury sees, and they have no obligation to present exculpatory evidence,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know from other police prosecutions, this one-sided presentation is how the Travis County DA has obtained indictments in the past.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time an officer has to confront a violent criminal they may be indicted if the DA doesn\u2019t like their actions,\u2019\u2019 the lawyer said.<\/p>\n

The cops bravely shot dead pro-Iran Senegalese immigrant Ndiaga Diagne<\/a> as he sprayed bullets at a popular college bar, killing three people<\/a> and wounding 13 more.<\/p>\n

The officers have not had charges lodged against them, at least yet, despite a viral tweet claiming otherwise Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe DA has taken to bringing any officer involved in a shooting case before a grand jury to determine if charges are warranted,\u201d Austin Police Association\u2019s Detective Christopher Irwin told The Post on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs it stands right now, there are no pending charges against any officers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked for the identities of the cops involved, O\u2019Connell declined to provide them.<\/p>\n
