LOWER MANHATTAN (PIX11) \u2014 A 16-year-old student was apprehended with a loaded handgun at Cascades High School in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday morning, according to police.<\/p>\n
The school at 198 Forsyth St. was given an anonymous tip about a student with a firearm, sources told PIX11. That\u2019s when the building was placed on lockdown and school safety agents challenged the student, according to the source.<\/p>\n
More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n Safety agents physically restrained the student and removed a 9mm handgun with 10 bullets in the chamber from his waistband, sources say.<\/p>\n \u201cWeapons have absolutely no place in our schools, or our city. This incident is deeply concerning,\u201d said a spokesperson for New York City Public Schools in a statement. \u201cThe school acted decisively and with the help of NYPD this weapon was quickly recovered; all students and staff were safe.
