The Los Angeles Rams weren’t the only team in on a trade for Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie, because the New York Giants were involved, also.

The Rams ended up securing McDuffie in a trade that saw Los Angeles ship off four draft picks to the Chiefs, including a first-rounder in 2026 (No. 29 overall).

According to Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star, the Giants were a finalist for a trade for McDuffie, which is pretty surprising to hear.

Howell notes that the difference was the Rams were willing to give up a first-round pick and then some in the deal.

That seems to indicate the Giants were willing to part with a first-rounder, although we highly doubt it would’ve been their 2026 selection, which falls at No. 5 overall.

“The Trent McDuffie trade came down to the Rams and the Giants, I’m told. In the end, the Rams were the team willing to give up first-round PLUS,” Howell wrote.

Giving up anything close to what the Rams gave up for McDuffie would not have been a smart move for New York.

Sure, the Giants need help at cornerback, but trading all of that for McDuffie is the kind of move a team that is one or two players away makes, and the Giants are not in that position.

Giving up significant draft capital would have been a colossal mistake.

Thankfully, Rams general manager Les Snead made an insane offer to beat out the Giants and effectively saved New York from itself.
