QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) \u2014 A man was charged with the killing of a 75-year-old in Astoria<\/a>, Queens, District Attorney Melinda Katz announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Deimitrios Manessis, 48, allegedly ambushed and stabbed the victim, George Dourdananas, right outside his apartment, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

The defendant was standing outside of his own apartment at 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday when the victim entered the building. Manessis allegedly punched the victim, knocking him down to the floor, and stabbed him repeatedly to death, police said.<\/p>\n

A witness who entered the building during the incident called 9-1-1, and the NYPD later apprehended Manessis, the D.A. said.<\/p>\n

Manessis is charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.<\/p>\n

If convicted, he may face 25 years to life in prison.<\/p>\n
