\t\t\tHONOLULU, Hawai’i \u2013 The Concordia University Irvine beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on the opening day of the Heineken Queen’s Cup\u00a0Thursday at Queen’s Beach, falling to No. 12 Hawai’i before bouncing back with a 5-0 sweep of Chaminade to close out the day.<\/p>\n

The Green and Gold opened the tournament against the ranked host Rainbow Wahine in a competitive dual despite the final 5-0 scoreline.\u00a0At the top flight, Olivia Medina<\/a> and Aliyah Moore<\/a> pushed Hawai’i’s Julia Lawrenz and Izadora Stedile to three sets in the most tightly contested match of the dual. After dropping the opening set 21-18, the Concordia pair rallied to take the second set 21-18 before Hawai’i secured the deciding frame 15-10.<\/p>\n Gabrielle Reinking<\/a> and Lexi Godbey<\/a> represented the Golden Eagles at Pair No. 2, falling in straight sets, 21-11 and 21-17. At No. 3, Kelia Giusta<\/a> and Ashley Rossi<\/a> kept the opening set close before Hawai’i pulled away for a 23-21, 21-14 victory.<\/p>\n Rosie Cline<\/a> and Jordan Vander Veen<\/a> took the sand at No. 4, dropping a 21-15, 21-15 contest, while Teagan Algarra<\/a> and Emma Hugeback<\/a> rounded out the lineup at No. 5 with a 21-17, 21-11 decision.<\/p>\n CUI 5, Chaminade 0<\/p>\n The Golden Eagles responded in dominant fashion in their second match of the day, sweeping Chaminade to close out day one on a high note.<\/p>\n CUI jumped out quickly, with Kelia Giusta<\/a> and Ashley Rossi<\/a> earning the first point of the dual at Pair No. 3 with a convincing 21-7, 21-11 victory.<\/p>\n Rosie Cline<\/a> and Jordan Vander Veen<\/a> followed at No. 4, posting a 21-6, 21-14 win to extend the lead. At the top court, Medina and Moore delivered another point for the Green and Gold, defeating Leilani Ama and Kanoelehua Misipeka 21-12, 21-17.<\/p>\n Gabrielle Reinking<\/a> and Lexi Godbey<\/a> secured the fourth point with a 21-19, 21-5 victory at Pair No. 2.<\/p>\n Rounding out the lineup at No. 5, Madi Kelly<\/a> and McKenzie Perrault<\/a> battled back after dropping the opening set to earn a three-set comeback win, 18-21, 21-13, 15-5, completing the sweep for the Golden Eagles.<\/p>\n UP NEXT\u00a0<\/p>\n The Golden Eagles return for Day Two of the Heinekin Queen’s Cup, facing Pepperdine and UNCW.\u00a0<\/p>\n
