NEW YORK \u2014 New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s wife, Rama Duwaji, liked several social media posts that celebrated Hamas\u2019 Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel, according to an investigation first reported by Jewish Insider.<\/p>\n

The posts, shared on Instagram, praised the assault that left nearly 1,200 Israelis and foreign workers dead, thousands wounded, and included kidnappings and reported sexual assaults.<\/p>\n

One post came from The Slow Factory, an organization that describes itself as a climate and social justice school, and featured images of attackers breaching Israel\u2019s border and riding a captured Israeli military vehicle. Text on the images read, \u201cBreaking the walls of apartheid and military occupation\u201d and \u201cResisting apartheid since 1948.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duwaji, a Syrian-American artist who married Mamdani in early 2025, liked the post using her personal account. She has also posted political illustrations and criticisms of Israeli policy on the account, which Mamdani has interacted with publicly in the past.<\/p>\n

The posts contrast with Mamdani\u2019s public stance. During his mayoral campaign, he consistently condemned Hamas\u2019 actions as \u201cwar crimes\u201d while criticizing the Israeli military response.<\/p>\n

Duwaji did not respond to requests for comment, and the mayor\u2019s office declined to comment on her social media activity, reiterating that Mamdani has \u201ccondemned that violence unequivocally.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additional posts Duwaji liked were linked to the People\u2019s Forum and affiliated organizations, including protests in Times Square on Oct. 8, 2023. The captions promoted slogans such as \u201cfrom the river to the sea\u201d and \u201cEvery colonized people, every occupied people has the right to self-defense,\u201d and encouraged resistance against occupation.<\/p>\n

Mamdani, then a state assemblymember, publicly criticized the rally at the time for downplaying Hamas\u2019 attacks on civilians.<\/p>\n
