A decomposing head was found in the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge late Thursday night, prompting a major law enforcement response on Friday, law enforcement sources told the Eagle. <\/p>\n
The remains, which have not been confirmed to be human, were found just off Cross Bay Boulevard in the refuge that stretches between Broad Channel and Howard Beach. <\/p>\n
Sources told the Eagle the head was found by Department of Sanitation workers. <\/p>\n
On Friday afternoon, a number of NYPD vehicles and trucks from the city Medical Examiner\u2019s Office were parked along Cross Bay Boulevard, and detectives were seen trawling through the wooded area. <\/p>\n
The NYPD confirmed that possible human remains were found in the refuge around 10:30 p.m. and that the ME will determine if they are indeed human.
