An anti-regime protester who wanted to \u201cshow up for the Iranian people\u201d was thrown to the ground and beaten Friday at a sparsely attended Manhattan vigil for Iran\u2019s dead Ayatollah Ali Khamenei<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While NYPD cops attempted to keep the two small groups separate, tension boiled over when Rami Even-Esh ripped down a picture of Khamenei at the demonstration in Washington Square Park.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake this down!\u201d he shouted, as a swarm of the dictator\u2019s sympathizers \u2014 some donning keffiyehs \u2014 knocked him down and kicked him, according to footage from FreedomNTV.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

A sparsely attended vigil for Iran\u2019s dead Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Friday in Manhattan descended into brief chaos when an anti-regime protester snatched a portrait of the depraved despot and was pummeled by mourners. Stephen Yang for NY Post<\/p>\n

Cops quickly jumped in and placed him in handcuffs as blood gushed from the top of his nose.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a terrorist who\u2019s killed American soldiers and I think it was insane that I was right there and there was a vigil so I just took the sign down. I felt that was the right thing to do,\u201d the victim told The Post as cops led him away.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like someone should show up for the Iranian people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police said multiple people were taken into custody during the demonstration.<\/p>\n

About two dozen counter-protesters, some of Iranian descent or pro-Israel, also chanted \u201cUSA\u201d and \u201cdeath to the terrorist,\u201d drowning out the roughly 25 mourners on hand for the detestable display of respect for the top cleric.<\/p>\n

The group commemorating the leader of the murderous regime claimed he defended the Iranian people \u2014 and they credited him for his bloodthirsty opposition to Israel.<\/p>\n

They also boasted his support for progressive causes, according to a vigil handout.<\/p>\n

Flowers lay on a table covered in a black and red keffiyeh. An Iranian flag and one with the depraved despot\u2019s face on it were also flying.<\/p>\n

An Iranian woman who immigrated to the US said the pro-Khamenei protesters were clueless about the realities of the \u201cterroristic regime.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThey just don\u2019t get the message,\u201d she told The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are mad dogs. These mad dogs that cannot be released in the world,\u201d she said of the Iranian regime. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe like the fact that Trump is actually helping Iranians to eliminate these people. We appreciated it. It is respectful that this is happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

Khamenei was killed last Saturday in the US-Israeli attack dubbed \u201cOperation Fury\u201d when Israeli missiles rained down from the edge of space<\/a>, striking his compound.<\/p>\n
