Their \u201cTax\u00a0the\u00a0Rich\u201d <\/a>campaign targets millionaires, but Democratic Socialists of America lefties are now pushing for a slew of\u00a0tax\u00a0hikes that would slam middle-class New Yorkers.<\/p>\n

The party\u2019s NYC chapter is asking potential candidates seeking its endorsement if they will back hiking income taxes for individuals making more than $300,000 \u2014 three times less than the $1 million threshold socialist Mayor Mamdani campaigned on.<\/p>\n

The DSA-NYC is also drumming up support from pols to tax New Yorkers with inheritances larger than $250,000, according to a copy of recent DSA candidate questionnaires obtained by The Post.<\/p>\n

Their \u201cTax\u00a0the\u00a0Rich\u201d campaign openly targets millionaires, but Democratic Socialists of America honchos are stealthily pushing for a slew of\u00a0tax\u00a0hikes and other measures that would also slam many middle-class New Yorkers. Cindy Schultz for NY Post<\/p>\n

The Empire State currently imposes an estate tax only if the deceased person\u2019s assets exceed $7.35 million.<\/p>\n

Other Marxist measures pushed by the party \u2014 which has long bragged of Mamdani\u2019s allegiance to its platform \u2014 include:<\/p>\n

DSA lawmakers have already failed trying to introduce legislation that would impose a 0.5% tax on trades in stocks, bonds and derivatives.<\/p>\n

Increasing taxes by a yet-to-be-determined rate on investment income from money-market accounts, government bonds and other assets.<\/p>\n

Curbing longstanding\u00a0deductions on charitable contributions and mortgage interest.<\/p>\n

A new \u201cwealth tax,\u201d likely referring to the Fair Share Act under consideration by state legislators, that would green-light Mamdani\u2019s\u00a0proposed 2% surcharge on NYC millionaires.<\/p>\n

A new, yet-to-be-determined tax on any financial transaction.<\/p>\n

Although not included in the questionnaires, the DSA taxman is also scheming to squeeze additional\u00a0taxes\u00a0out of New York married couples<\/a> making more than $500,000 combined.<\/p>\n

The DSA questionnaires prove the far-left faction wants to go after average New Yorkers \u2014 not just billionaires, said NYC Councilman Frank Morano.<\/p>\n

The DSA\u2019s NYC chapter is asking potential candidates seeking endorsements if they back increasing income-tax rates for individuals making more than $300,000 and other Marxist measures to increase taxes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn New York City, someone making $300,000 isn\u2019t a hedge-fund titan,\u201d said the Staten Island Republican.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s often a small business owner, a successful contractor, or a two-income professional family trying to afford a mortgage and raise kids.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow they want to tax inheritances starting at $250,000, punish investment income, and even curb deductions for charitable giving. That doesn\u2019t just hit the wealthy. It hits the middle class, the upper-middle class, and the very people who already carry the tax burden in this city.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even Councilman Chi Oss\u00e9, a Brooklyn Democratic socialist, thought the DSA\u2019s plan to slap an extra tax on inheritances over $250,000 is too much \u2014 especially for \u201cworking class Black homeowners.\u201d Stephen Yang for the NY Post<\/p>\n

DSA-backed pols who supported the measures in the questionnaires include Diana Morero, <\/a>who won a special election last month to fill Mamdani\u2019s former Queens assembly seat; Queens Assemblywoman Claire Valdez, who is running for Congress;\u00a0Darializa Avila Chevalier, who is challenging Harlem-based Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat; and state Assembly candidates Conrad Blackburn, David Orkin <\/a>and Samantha Kattan.<\/p>\n

However, the inheritance-tax proposal proved to be too much for Brooklyn Councilman Chi Oss\u00e9,<\/a> a card-carrying member of the DSA.<\/p>\n

Oss\u00e9, who mulled a Congressional run last year, wrote in his questionnaire the tax\u2019s threshold must be \u201cmuch higher\u201d than $250,000 to \u00a0\u201cavoid hurting working class Black homeowners in Bed-Stuy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA generational family home, purchased for very little, could be valued at over a million dollars today, leaving Black working-class community members facing an unaffordable tax bill,\u201d said Oss\u00e9, who in December dropped his bid to primary House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries after Mamdani successfully lobbied the DSA not to endorse him.<\/p>\n

Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo also ripped the proposed tax hikes. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t \u2018Tax the Rich\u2019 anymore \u2014 it\u2019s tax everyone who hasn\u2019t already left New York,\u201d he told The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew Yorkers are already struggling with affordability, and raising taxes on working and middle-class residents will only be a boon for moving companies. The answer is growing jobs and expanding our tax base \u2014 not socialist dogma that will only drive the very people our economy depends on out of state.\u201d<\/p>\n
