A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot in the head\u00a0while sitting\u00a0in a car in Brooklyn Friday\u00a0night, marking\u00a0the latest tragic episode of New York City youth violence.<\/p>\n

Johary Cantave was in a white Mitsubishi at 46th Street and Ninth Avenue in Sunset Park \u2013 about seven blocks from his home \u2013 when gunfire erupted around 11:50 p.m., cops said.<\/p>\n

The bullets flew as three unknown males fought with a person outside the vehicle, police said.<\/p>\n

Photos from the scene\u00a0show the vehicle\u2019s back window was blasted out by the gunfire.<\/p>\n

The victim\u2019s friend drove him to Maimonides Medical Center but he couldn\u2019t be saved, cops said.<\/p>\n

Police are looking for three males,\u00a0who may have fled on mopeds, police sources said.<\/p>\n

Youth violence across New York City<\/a> hit historic highs last year, with staggering numbers of shooters and shooting victims under the age of 18, according to NYPD data released in January.<\/p>\n

Last year, 14% of shooting victims and 18% of shooters were under 18 years old, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said during an\u00a0otherwise-triumphant news conference<\/a>\u00a0outlining historic drops in crime.<\/p>\n

The boy\u2019s grieving mom, who declined to provide her name, was lying in bed crying at the family\u2019s apartment Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

The teen was an 8th-grader and would have graduated from middle school in three months, she said.<\/p>\n
