He was looking to be a mechanic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to investigators, Johary was in the passenger seat of a car near 46th Street and Ninth Avenue, talking with a friend on a scooter when three people wearing ski masks approached.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/news\/local-news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:More Local News;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police say after a brief argument with the boy on the scooter, one of the suspects opened fire, hitting Johary. The teen\u2019s friend drove him to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Hours before the shooting, Johary\u2019s brother said he spoke with him for the last time, a memory that now weighs heavily. \u201cI told him, \u2018Safety, bro. Just make it home, don\u2019t stay out too long.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Now, the Cantave family is left with pain and unanswered questions. \u201cHe was always looking out for everybody,\u201d his brother said. \u201cI can\u2019t understand or picture this being real.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police are still searching for the three suspects who ran from the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The family has not yet decided whether to hold a vigil in Johary\u2019s memory.
