{"id":158051,"date":"2026-03-09T16:15:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T16:15:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/158051\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T16:15:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T16:15:07","slug":"maple-month-begins-in-new-york-state-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/158051\/","title":{"rendered":"Maple Month begins in New York State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.\u00a0Kathy\u00a0Hochul is encouraging\u00a0New\u00a0Yorkers to support their local\u00a0maple\u00a0producers during\u00a0Maple\u00a0Month and highlighted the state\u2019s upcoming\u00a0Maple\u00a0Weekends\u2014March 21-22 and March 28-29\u2014as well as additional events at\u00a0New\u00a0York\u2019s Welcome Centers.<\/p>\n<p>New\u00a0York State ranks second in the nation in\u00a0maple\u00a0production. In 2025, the industry produced 829,000 gallons. In addition,\u00a0New\u00a0York continues to be home to the largest resource of tappable maple\u00a0trees within the U.S. and more than 2,000\u00a0maple\u00a0sugar makers. The\u00a0governor\u2019s proposed 2027 Executive Budget includes continued funding for marketing and research to further grow the\u00a0maple\u00a0industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith over 2,000\u00a0maple\u00a0producers,\u00a0New\u00a0York continues to be home to a\u00a0thriving community that dedicates their time to making the most delicious and innovative maple products in the world,\u201d Gov. Hochul said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaple\u00a0season is underway across the state with many of our producers seeing sap flowing already,\u201d said New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Richard Ball. \u201cI\u2019m proud that\u00a0New\u00a0York continues to be a top maple producer in the U.S. and that our producers continue to make some of the finest, most innovative\u00a0maple\u00a0products in the country that contribute greatly to our economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of the kickoff to\u00a0Maple\u00a0Month,\u00a0Ball joined local agricultural representatives and elected officials to visit Parker Family\u00a0Maple\u00a0Farm, a family-owned farm in West\u00a0Chazy, Clinton County, for the state\u2019s annual\u00a0maple\u00a0tree tapping. The Parker Family\u00a0Maple\u00a0Farm is one of the largest\u00a0maple\u00a0establishments in the country, and the largest in\u00a0New\u00a0York State, producing more than 50,000 gallons of\u00a0maple\u00a0syrup per year. <\/p>\n<p>The farm, which began in 1889, started as a 60-acre dairy farm and\u00a0maple\u00a0sugaring operation. The farm has been handed down over four generations and today, it is run by Michael Parker and his wife Laura, with the help of their young children. It has grown to include more than 1,000 acres of land and about 100,000 taps of\u00a0maple. The business also features a seasonal restaurant, forestry, sawmill and hay crop and more.<\/p>\n<p>Parker Family\u00a0Maple\u00a0Farm is also a part of the\u00a0New\u00a0York State Grown &amp; Certified program, which promotes\u00a0New\u00a0York farms that adhere to a higher standard for food safety and environmentally friendly practices.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 100\u00a0maple\u00a0producers participate in the NYS Grown &amp; Certified program, which verifies\u00a0New\u00a0York\u2019s\u00a0agricultural producers and growers who adhere to food safety and environmental sustainability standards. We hope that visitors will enjoy the magic of\u00a0maple\u00a0season at our sugar house and all the others across the North Country this\u00a0Spring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maple\u00a0Weekends<\/p>\n<p id=\"h-maple-weekendsthroughout-the-month-of-march-each-year-and-the-last-two-weekends-of-the-month-in-particular-maple-farms-across-the-state-open-their-doors-to-the-public-to-provide-a-chance-to-taste-pure-maple-syrup-right-from-the-source-and-experience-the-unique-family-tradition-of-making-maple-syrup-in-new-york-state-producers-offer-tours-and-pancake-breakfasts-sell-maple-products-and-demonstrate-the-syrup-making-process-which-includes-the-traditional-system-of-hanging-buckets-on-trees-or-more-modern-methods-of-production-using-vacuum-systems-to-increase-the-yield-of-sap-per-tree-a-searchable-list-of-maple-weekend-events-is-available-at-mapleweekend-nysmaple-com\">Throughout the\u00a0month\u00a0of March each year and the last two weekends of the\u00a0month\u00a0in particular,\u00a0maple\u00a0farms across the state open their doors to the public to provide a chance to taste pure\u00a0maple\u00a0syrup, right from the source, and experience the family tradition of making\u00a0maple\u00a0syrup in\u00a0New\u00a0York State. Producers offer tours and pancake breakfasts, sell\u00a0maple\u00a0products and demonstrate the syrup-making process, which includes the traditional system of hanging buckets on trees or more modern methods of production using vacuum systems to increase the yield of sap per tree.
