After serving patrons for 17 years, the Z-One restaurant in Bulls Head closed at the end of June. <\/a><\/p>\n

Owner Steve Osman told the Advance\/SILive.com at the time that skyrocketing rent was the primary reason for the beloved eatery\u2019s closure.<\/p>\n

The final meal Z-One was served on Sunday, June 29 after the kitchen closed at 9:45 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had this place coming on 20 years. It was a great place and still is. But with our rent increasing to over $50,000 a month and a very high real estate tax, it just didn\u2019t make sense anymore,\u201d said Osman.<\/p>\n

A note to customers that the management posted on the eatery\u2019s door said, \u201cWe regret to inform you that we are permanently closed. The landlord did not renew our lease.\u201d<\/p>\n

The note continued, \u201cWe wish to thank every single one of you for your business.\u201d<\/p>\n

Z-One became a vibrant weekend night spot and an anytime-of-the-day meeting destination. <\/p>\n

Z was open 365 days of the year regardless of weather and even opened on time the day after the destruction of Hurricane Irene in 2011. <\/p>\n

On that morning, no other business in the area had opened. The staff at Z-One managed to get hot coffee and breakfast going as hungry customers with no electricity queued up for a meal.<\/p>\n

Customers unaware of the shuttering in June continued showing up at the restaurant for a time only to find locked doors. <\/p>\n

The property at 1821 Richmond Ave. remains for lease.<\/p>\n

Haunting reminders of the eatery remain visible through the windows at the restaurant. <\/p>\n
