From January 2019 through May 2022, she charged patients hundreds of dollars in cash in exchange for monthly oxycodone prescriptions, prosecutors said.

Sometimes the prescriptions were issued without an in-person appointment, with payment information collected and prescriptions refilled immediately, according to prosecutors. Prosecutors said she made hundreds of thousands of dollars a year from the cash payments.

Authorities also said Jafari-Hassad submitted false claims to Medicare and private insurers for medical services that were not provided and received reimbursement for procedures she did not perform.

Dr. Roya Jafari-Hassad walks from the federal courthouse in Central Islip after her arraignment, Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022.…

[37
383,7946,9,24,63,44554,122,124,123
post-158300","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-queens","tag-department-of-justice","tag-great-neck","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-nyc","tag-oxycodone","tag-queens","tag-queens-headlines","tag-queens-news
["GET
