{"id":158353,"date":"2026-03-09T20:18:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:18:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/158353\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:18:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:18:08","slug":"zohran-mamdani-reacts-after-isis-ties-revealed-in-nyc-gracie-mansion-ied-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/158353\/","title":{"rendered":"Zohran Mamdani Reacts After ISIS Ties Revealed in NYC Gracie Mansion IED Attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/new-york-city\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York City<\/a> Mayor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/zohran-mamdani\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zohran Mamdani<\/a> called for the two men arrested in connection with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/terrorist-attack\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">terrorist attack<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/new-york\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York<\/a> City to &#8220;be held fully accountable&#8221; in a post on X Monday, following<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/zohran-mamdanis-white-supremacist-protest-post-maga-backlash-11643411\" id=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/zohran-mamdanis-white-supremacist-protest-post-maga-backlash-11643411\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> backlash from MAGA<\/a> regarding his previous statements on the case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">An improvised explosive device was thrown during clashes between anti-Islam demonstrators and counter-protesters outside Gracie Mansion, the official residence of Mamdani Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Two Pennsylvanians, 18-year-old\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/emir-balat-ibrahim-kayumi-who-are-they-new-york-zohran-mamdani-protest-11642993\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emir Balat and 19-year-old<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/emir-balat-ibrahim-kayumi-who-are-they-new-york-zohran-mamdani-protest-11642993\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ibrahim Kayumi<\/a>, were arrested in connection with the incident, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch told reporters at a media conference on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Monday, a criminal complaint said the men admitted to being inspired by the\u00a0Islamic State extremist group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">&#8220;Emir Balat and\u00a0Ibrahim Kayumi have been charged with committing a heinous act of terrorism and proclaiming their allegiance to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/isis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ISIS<\/a>,&#8221; Mamdani said in the post Monday afternoon, adding, &#8220;They should be held fully accountable for their actions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">&#8220;We will continue to keep New Yorkers safe.
