Brooklyn-born Jean-Jacques has served on the New York City Civil Court since 2023. Before becoming a judge, she worked extensively in the judicial system and legal practice, including roles such as principal law clerk to Hon.\u202fFrancois Rivera in the Kings County Supreme Court, Civil Term.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Jean-Jacques described herself as a person who values the law and the legal process.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is such an honor and a privilege,\u201d she told the Brooklyn Eagle. \u201cI\u2019m so grateful for this opportunity. I hope to bring fairness and equity to my new role, and will work as hard and as expeditiously as I can.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ruben currently serves as a judge on the\u202fNew York City Family Court. She was first appointed in June\u202f2015 and reappointed in late\u202f2023 to continue her term.<\/p>\n
Ruben began her legal career as a law clerk. She then worked as an associate in private law firms, focusing on matrimonial law and trusts and estates. She also devoted over 18 years to\u202fThe Legal Aid Society\u2019s Civil Division.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m so excited about the upcoming challenges,\u201d Ruben told the Eagle. \u201cI hope to be able to address some very old motions that haven\u2019t been decided, and going forward, deliver fair decisions to make people feel comfortable in my courtroom.
