{"id":158643,"date":"2026-03-10T00:33:35","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T00:33:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/158643\/"},"modified":"2026-03-10T00:33:35","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T00:33:35","slug":"woman-bystander-shot-in-leg-outside-brooklyn-mall-gunman-flees-cops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/158643\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman bystander shot in leg outside Brooklyn mall, gunman flees: cops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A bullet meant for someone else struck a 30-year-old woman in the leg, seriously wounding her, outside a busy Brooklyn shopping plaza, police and witnesses said Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The woman was strolling near Fulton St. in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.downtownbrooklyn.com\/listing\/albee-square\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Albee Square;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;Albee Square&quot;}\" class=\"link \">Albee Square<\/a> close to the historic Dime Savings Bank in downtown Brooklyn when she was shot in the lower leg around 2:13 p.m., police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Cops said the victim was an innocent bystander and the shooter appeared to be aiming at someone else.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A vendor selling hats across the street said the shooter seemed to recognize someone he knew, and brazenly opened fire in the middle of the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThere was one guy, he was shouting at someone,\u201d said the vendor, who asked to remain anonymous. \u201cHe had a gun, and he shot one time. The woman, she was just walking and she was hit in the leg. It was crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The gunman immediately fled the scene and \u201cran away down Fulton St.,\u201d the vendor said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Medics rushed the victim to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyp.org\/locations\/brooklyn\/nyp-brooklyn-methodist-hospital\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Brooklyn Methodist Hospital;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;Brooklyn Methodist Hospital&quot;}\" class=\"link \">Brooklyn Methodist Hospital<\/a>, where she is in stable condition, according to police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A blood-encrusted pant leg cut from the victim\u2019s jeans by medics was still on the ground hours later, a Daily News reporter at the scene observed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A single bullet casing was spotted on the ground nearby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">So far there have been no arrests as police continue to look for the shooter, cops said.
