A small earthquake in Westchester County on Tuesday morning left some Bronx residents feeling the earth move under their feet<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

The tremor with a 2.3 magnitude happened at about 10:17 a.m. on March 10 in Sleepy Hollow, according to the U.S. Geological Survey<\/a>. The quake happened about 7.4 kilometers below the surface.<\/p>\n

Close to 900 people reported feeling the tremor to the U.S. Geological Survey as of 11 a.m. Tuesday morning. Most of the reports emanated from Westchester County, but a few came from areas of the Bronx generally north of the Cross Bronx Expressway<\/a>.<\/p>\n

No major damage was reported as a result of Tuesday\u2019s earthquake.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

Seismic activity in the New York City area is rare, though activity near the Ramapo Fault, which runs through the northern suburbs and New Jersey, has stirred up the Big Apple in recent years.\n<\/p>\n

An April 2024 earthquake near Whitehouse Station, NJ, that registered 4.8 on the Richter scale<\/a> set off the emergency alert system and caused general alarm, though no major damage, in New York City.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last summer, two more minor earthquakes in the northern New Jersey suburbs<\/a> also rattled and rolled the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Earthquakes along the Ramapo Fault have been known to shake up the city.
