Luiz Campos and Tasneem Sarjoo (pictured above)
Screenwriter and administrative assistant, East Village and Rockville Centre

How did you get paired to wrestle each other?

Luiz: I actually saw Taz in the corner, and I thought she just looked really pretty and her outfit was fun. She kind of looked like Wonder Woman. I just went up to her and then started talking and asked her to wrestle.

Tasneem: I thought he had nice hair. He had a decent enough fit on.

Who won?
Tasneem: Luiz has been saying that I won, but I think he beat me.

Luiz: It was a draw.

Tasneem: It was a draw.

Luiz: Yeah, no one pinned anybody.

Do you think you’ll see each other again?
Tasneem: We’re planning to get dinner next week!

Eve May and Isabelle Gartner

Student and sales associate, Chelsea and Bedford-Stuyvesant

Got any special moves?

Isabelle: The Gartner leg hook. Something my dad taught me is you put your leg behind their knees and then you make them fall over.

Eve: Our safe word was rutabaga. But we didn’t have to use it.

Rae Baer and Fardowsa Fasa

How is it meeting people in person rather than online?

Rae: I just think Hinge is evil. It’s like online shopping. It’s like Amazon. They’re from the same evil planet. TikTok Shop. Labubu and Dubai chocolate.

Jett Marlowe and Norman Godinez

Tell me about your match.

Quincy May: I told my friends I came here to suplex a twink. But at the end of the day, I ended up being the twink that got suplexed.

Rylie Severino

August Pointer Mace and Roman Bickson

Theatrical costumer and student, Poughkeepsie and Fordham

What’s it like wrestling a stranger?

Roman: I played tackle football for eight years, and I go to the gym a lot. So I was a little worried I might appear scary. But I appreciated having Gus as my partner because they had experience being thrown and throwing other people.

August: I play rugby at my college, and I dance. I guess I’ve got a baseline flexibility and physicality that made me think I wouldn’t get injured.

Mara Hiney and Ken Griffith

Henry, you said you wrestled in high school. Tips?

Henry: Keep your hips low. When you’re trying to get a shot on their legs, don’t lead with your head; lead with your hips.
