\u201cShake Shack has the best value fries at 40 cents per ounce,\u201d wrote study authors for Net Credit, a personal loans lender, in the 2026 report<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cFinding the best value fries wasn\u2019t about finding the cheapest fries,\u201d the experts explained. \u201cIt was about narrowing it down to the U.S. burger chain \u2026 that offered the most fries for the least amount of money.\u201d<\/p>\n More potatoes for less dough \u2014 it\u2019s a frugal gourmand\u2019s dream.\u00a0<\/p>\n Researchers calculated the cost and price per ounce for an order of fries from the 14 largest fast-food joints in Americato determine which spot offers the most fries for the least amount of money. NetCredit<\/p>\n Belts are tightening and budgets are being stretched thin amid\u00a0the unpredictable inflation crisis<\/a>, leaving folks craving a yummy meal for a steal like\u00a0the 99-cent burgers and \u201cDollar Menu\u201d treats<\/a>\u00a0of yore.\u00a0<\/p>\n But until the economy heals \u2014 or society figures out a way to\u00a0rewind the hands of time\u00a0<\/a>\u2014 Shake Shack has, evidently, got our backs.\u00a0<\/p>\n To rightfully crown the joint \u201cbest,\u201d researchers calculated the national average price per ounce of medium (or regular) fries at more than a dozen of the largest U.S. burger chains, including McDonald\u2019s, Burger King, Wendy\u2019s, Five Guys, In-N-Out, Smash Burger and, of course, Shake Shack.\u00a0<\/p>\n Investigators then analyzed the published nutrition data of fries from the restaurants and documented the weight of each serving.\u00a0<\/p>\n Shake Shack lavishes customers with 6.17 ounces per regular portion of fries, according to the study. EMMY PARK<\/p>\n \u201cWe used kitchen scales to weigh a regular portion of fries from each of the 14 biggest U.S. burger chains, where regional price variations were normalized to reflect the nation\u2019s average for each chain,\u201d the experts explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cShake Shack \u2014 despite having some of the more expensive fries on our list \u2014 had the best overall value, at 40 cents per ounce (because they do give customers a lot of fries \u2014 6.17 ounces per regular portion),\u201d the insider said of the crinkle-cuts. The average cost for the golden goodies is around $5.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cBy comparison, Sonic, which came in last of the 14 places, maintains a price of $1.27 per ounce, with a total of 2.54 ounces per serving,\u201d per the findings. Crispy spuds from Sonic come with a price tag of approximately $4.\u00a0<\/p>\n But, surprisingly, in the never-ending beef <\/a>between McDonald\u2019s and Burger King<\/a>, the king bested Ronald in the ranking.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWe found that a serving of medium McDonald\u2019s fries weighs around 3.99 oz. At a national average price of $3.54, this adds up to about $0.89 per ounce \u2014 15.6% more expensive per ounce than regular Burger King fries,\u201d noted the team of pros.\u00a0<\/p>\n However, when it came to the \u201cbest value cheeseburger\u201d \u2014 determined by calculating the national average price per ounce of a single-patty sandwich \u2014 Mickey D\u2019s came in second place, trailing closely behind Whataburger, which earned the No. 1 spot.<\/p>\n Burger King and Wendy\u2019s took the third- and fourth-place honors, respectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n Chowhounds, nationwide, have longed for the days when fast-food eats came at affordable costs.
