Getty Images<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/14\/lifestyle\/gas-prices-are-up-only-4-states-are-paying-less-than-3-per-gallon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">One-fifth of the world\u2019s oil supply<\/a> has been shut down since Iran <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/14\/world-news\/any-country-except-for-us-and-israel-can-pass-through-strait-of-hormuz-iranian-foreign-minister-says\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">blockaded the Strait of Hormuz<\/a> in retaliation for the US and Israeli bombing campaign that began Feb. 28.<\/p>\n<p>The average pump price nationwide jumped 26 cents in the past week alone, reaching $3.68 Saturday \u2013 a 70-cent spike since the start of the war, according to AAA.<\/p>\n<p>The last time Americans paid this much was May 2024. Christopher Sadowski for New Yor<\/p>\n<p>President Trump on Wednesday <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/11\/us-news\/trump-signals-he-will-tap-into-strategic-petroleum-reserve-to-bring-down-gas-prices\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ordered the release of 172 million barrels<\/a> from the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve, the biggest such release in American history.<\/p>\n<p>The US burns through roughly 20 million barrels of petroleum every single day, yet the emergency dump will only cover just over eight days of domestic demand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"New Yorkers are getting a crash at the gas pump.
