NEW YORK \u2013 Residents of Putnam County experience the longest commute to work outside of New York City.<\/p>\n
Census data just released indicates when it comes to average commutes, residents of New York face the longest travel times.<\/p>\n
The four New York counties with the longest average commutes are all in the Big Apple: Bronx, Richmond (Staten Island), Queens and Kings (Brooklyn).<\/p>\n
Number five on the list is Putnam with an average commute time of 39.3 minutes which is the longest commute time for any northern county.<\/p>\n
The survey noted everything north of Westchester and Rockland was considered as upstate.<\/p>\n
After Putnam, Orange County ranks second in upstate New York with an average travel time to work of 34.1 minutes. Dutchess County is third at 31.2 minutes.<\/p>\n
The numbers all come from census estimates released in January that cover a five-year period from 2020 to 2024.<\/p>\n
The county with the shortest commute time in New York is Jefferson at 19.5 minutes. The Bronx has the longest average commute at 43.3 minutes.<\/p>\n
New York has 62 counties with 53 upstate.<\/p>\n
