WASHINGTON \u2014 A powerful Republican-led House committee\u00a0Tuesday subpoenaed<\/a>\u00a0Attorney General Pam Bondi to answer questions about \u201cthe possible mismanagement\u201d of the Justice Department\u2019s probe into Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer<\/a>\u00a0(R-Ky.) told Bondi in a letter that the panel also wants to hear about \u201cthe circumstances and subsequent investigations of Mr. Epstein\u2019s death,\u201d as well as investigative materials gathered on his convicted accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell.<\/p>\n

The Oversight panel voted in favor of Bondi\u2019s\u00a0deposition earlier this month<\/a>\u00a0and has asked the AG to appear April 14.<\/p>\n

Epstein \u2014 a convicted pedophile and millionaire New York City financier who rubbed shoulders with some of the most powerful people in the world \u2014 died behind bars in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges, sparking a slew of conspiracy theories that forced the government to release its files on him.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Attorney General, you are directly responsible for overseeing the Department\u2019s collection, review, and determinations regarding the release of files pursuant to the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and the Committee therefore believes that you possess valuable insight into these efforts,\u201d Comer wrote in the missive to Bondi.<\/p>\n

A DOJ rep responded in a statement, \u201cThis subpoena is completely unnecessary. <\/p>\n

\u201cLawmakers have been invited to view the unredacted files for themselves at the Department of Justice, and the Attorney General has always made herself available to speak directly with members of Congress.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe continues to have calls and meetings with members of Congress on the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which is why the Department offered to brief the committee tomorrow,\u201d the representative added of their boss.\u00a0\u201cAs always, we look forward to continuing to provide policymakers with the facts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Five Republicans\u00a0\u2014 Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Tim Burchett of Tennessee, Michael Cloud of Texas, Nancy Mace of South Carolina, and Scott Perry of Pennsylvania \u2014 joined 19 Democrats on the Oversight Committee\u00a0to compel Bondi\u2019s appearance<\/a>\u00a0through a motion put forward by Mace on March 4.<\/p>\n

The Justice Department has released more than 3 million pages of investigative materials on Epstein and Maxwell to the public after the passage of a bill in Congress in November 2025 that mandated their release.<\/p>\n

None of the materials have altered the DOJ\u2019s position, memorialized in a July 6, 2025, memo, that Epstein was not part of a sinister pedophile ring that trafficked girls as young as 14 \u2014 despite Bondi saying in\u00a0an\u00a0interview with Fox News Channel<\/a>\u00a0months before that a list of\u00a0Epstein\u2019s \u201cclients\u201d was \u201csitting on my desk right now to review.\u201d<\/p>\n

A senior Justice Department official has told The Post that the memo\u2019s determination about the purported client list and Epstein having committed suicide Aug. 10, 2019, in his Manhattan jail cell have also been supported by the disclosures.<\/p>\n

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles acknowledged in an interview with Vanity Fair late last year that Bondi had still\u00a0\u201ccompletely whiffed\u201d in her public remarks beforehand.<\/p>\n

In addition to Bondi, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has also agreed to voluntarily testify before the panel about his association with Epstein \u2014 after a photo and emails emerged in the DOJ\u2019s Epstein files.<\/p>\n

The undated picture showed Lutnick visiting with the disgraced financier on his private isle \u2014 dubbed \u201cPedophile Island\u201d by locals because of Epstein\u2019s predilection for young-looking females \u2014 in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n

Communications between the two revealed that Lutnick and his family stopped by Little St. James for a lunch visit that lasted roughly an hour, the Cabinet official later confirmed in testimony to Congress.<\/p>\n

Lutnick previously told \u201cPod Force One\u201d host and Post columnist Miranda Devine that\u00a0he \u201cwas never in the room with him\u00a0[Epstein] \u2014 socially,\u00a0for business or even philanthropy.\u201d<\/p>\n
