NWSL Match at MLB&#8217;s Citi Field"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gotham is taking soccer fans out to the ballpark on July 15th, with the reigning NWSL champs announcing Tuesday that the club will play its 2025 league final rematch against the Washington Spirit at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DV_w8J9jwOw\/?img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">MLB stadium Citi Field<\/a>, home to the New York Mets and MLS side New York City FC.<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed &#8220;The Queens Classic&#8221; in honor of the NYC borough, the summer rivalry event will mark the third MLB stadium-hosted NWSL match, after Bay FC hosted the Spirit at the San Francisco Giants&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/justwomenssports.com\/reads\/washington-spirit-knock-bay-fc-out-of-oracle-park-as-nwsl-sets-new-attendance-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Oracle Park<\/a> in 2025 and the Stars battled Bay FC inside Chicago&#8217;s historic <a href=\"https:\/\/justwomenssports.com\/reads\/nwsl-soccer-chicago-red-stars-wrigley-attendance-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Wrigley Field<\/a> in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The District vs. Empire rivalry belongs on a big stage, and Citi Field delivers,&#8221; Washington Spirit CEO Kim Stone said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gothamfc.com\/news\/gotham-fc-to-host-nwsl-championship-rematch-on-historic-night-at-citi-field\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Tuesday&#8217;s statement<\/a>. &#8220;New Yorkers know a big moment when they see one \u2014 this is it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The midseason matchup is aiming to capitalize on the city&#8217;s soccer frenzy surrounding the <a href=\"https:\/\/justwomenssports.com\/reads\/nwsl-drops-schedule-framework-for-expanded-2026-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">2026 Men&#8217;s World Cup<\/a> \u2014 with the FIFA tournament&#8217;s finale kicking off less than 20 miles east of Citi Field just four days after the NWSL event.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re really excited to put women&#8217;s sports and our world-class athletes at Gotham FC front and center when a global spotlight is on New York,&#8221;
