The focus is on Atlanta’s need at shortstop especially with Dubon’s recent subpar output. At the same time, the Yankees are reviewing their infield after several seasons of limited production from Volpe. This has opened the door for a deal that could suit both teams, especially with Atlanta pushing to compete and New York trying to adjust its roster.

Atlanta Braves’ Shortstop Situations Driving the Discussion

Mauricio Dubon, 31, joined Atlanta Braves late in 2025 and is set to handle shortstop duties. He remains strong defensively and can play multiple positions at a high level. His offense, however, has been average, with a .241 batting average and limited power.Anthony Volpe, 25, is still the Yankees’ starting shortstop but has not produced steady numbers at the plate. Even after returning from labrum surgery, his OPS has stayed below .670 over three seasons. The Yankees have looked at other options, which has added to the speculation.

Proposed Trade Framework

The simplest version of this deal would be a one-for-one swap, with Dubon going to New York and Volpe heading to Atlanta. The Braves could also include a mid-level pitching prospect such as Hurston Waldrep or add cash to even things out.Volpe is under team control through 2028 on a low salary, which adds to his value. Dubon is making $6.1 million in his final arbitration year and would give the Yankees a flexible option in an infield that includes Jazz Chisholm Jr., Paul Goldschmidt, and Ryan McMahon. Early projections give Volpe around 1.9 fWAR for 2026.

How the Deal Benefits Both Teams

For Atlanta Braves, this move would bring in a younger shortstop who could take over. Anthony Volpe’s defense and power fit with players like Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ozzie Albies, and he could improve an area where Dubon has struggled offensively. The Yankees would get a player who can cover multiple positions and help across the infield. Dubon’s defense would support a crowded group and provide depth, while also allowing the team to move on from Volpe’s uneven hitting.

Pros and Cons of the Move

Pros • Atlanta Braves add a younger shortstop with long-term control • New York Yankees gains defensive depth without moving key prospects • The deal is financially simple and easy to completeCons • Anthony Volpe’s strikeout rate above 25% remains a concern • Yankees give up a young player who could still improve • Dubon does not add much power to New York’s lineupAlso read: MLB trade rumors: Boston Red Sox predicted to part ways with $90 million star ahead of Opening Day to improve rotation and title oddsAtlanta Braves would benefit by adding a younger player with more upside at shortstop. The Yankees would improve their depth but take a risk by moving on from Volpe. The idea is still speculative, but it fits the current needs of both teams."Banner

Atlanta Braves Drake Baldwin is greeted by Jurickson Profar after hitting a solo home run (Image via AP…

[6
69253,13831,67148,5388,9,11,10,69252
post-168923","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-new-york","tag-anthony-volpe-trade","tag-atlanta-braves","tag-mauricio-dubon","tag-mlb-trade-rumors","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-headlines","tag-new-york-news","tag-new-york-yankees-shortstop
["GET
