OGDENSBURG\u2014 Two Chinese men from New York City were arrested in Ogdensburg March 19 for allegedly stealing more than $50,000 from an elderly person through a scam.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Chun Yan, 42, of Brooklyn, and Canjian Chein, 46, of Queens, were each charged March 19 with second-degree grand larceny, attempted second-degree grand larceny, and third-degree conspiracy, according to Ogdensburg Police.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Chen and Yan were arrested following investigation of a complaint alleging that a person had been scammed out of more than $50,000 by the two Chinese men.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Both are held pending arraignment in Ogdensburg City Court.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ogdensburg Police were assisted by New York State Police, Homeland Security, the St. Lawrence County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Massena Police, and Daniel Mousaw of the St. Lawrence County District Attorney\u2019s Office.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Ogdensburg Police Department noted that there are several scams attempting to defraud community members of money, saying there are \u201cso many out there so there are some generic tips to help not be scammed.\u201d<\/p>\n
