Knee-high, fur-covered boots lined the rainy streets of Philadelphia on Monday night, clear evidence that the weather had nothing on the fans of BENEE<\/a>. Following the release of her first album since her debut, the New Zealand\u2013born singer-songwriter arrived in the city to celebrate her sophomore project, Ur an Angel I\u2019m Just Particles<\/a>.<\/p>\n Brooklyn native and former member of The Skins Bayli<\/a> took the stage first with a high-energy set. Cheeky and playful, she even crowned a lucky audience member the \u201cprincess\u201d before launching into \u201cPassenger Princess.\u201d Setlist standouts included \u201csushi for breakfast\u201d and an unbeatable cover of Frank Ocean<\/a>\u2019s \u201cSuper Rich Kids.\u201d<\/p>\n Undeniably herself, BENEE stepped onto the stage at Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia, opening with \u201cSad Boii<\/a>,\u201d the fourth track off her latest album. She followed it with \u201cCinnamon<\/a>\u201d and then \u201cVegas,\u201d pausing to share the story behind the song\u2014one that involved a near spur-of-the-moment marriage that ultimately didn\u2019t happen. \u201cSometimes, you just need a song to headbang to,\u201d she told the crowd.<\/p>\n Her set stretched well beyond the new record, pulling in fan favorites like \u201cWishful Thinking\u201d and \u201cGlitter\u201d from her 2019 EP, FIRE ON MARZZ. <\/p>\n One of the best parts of watching an artist live is seeing whether they\u2019re actually enjoying themselves, and BENEE clearly was. Between songs, she bantered with the crowd, pointed out the designated \u201cpassenger princess\u201d from earlier, and even tested out her American accent before slipping into a stripped-down version of \u201cDoesn\u2019t Matter.\u201d At one point, she handed the spotlight over to her guitarist and drummer, giving them room to shine.<\/p>\n No BENEE set would feel complete without an energetic \u201cSupalonely,\u201d and she capped off the night with \u201cGreen Honda,\u201d closing out a set that felt both loosey-goosey and deeply her own.
