{"id":171158,"date":"2026-03-22T05:10:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-22T05:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/171158\/"},"modified":"2026-03-22T05:10:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-22T05:10:07","slug":"venezuelan-migrant-arrested-after-new-york-teen-sheridan-gorman-is-fatally-shot-near-loyola-chicago-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/171158\/","title":{"rendered":"Venezuelan migrant arrested after New York teen Sheridan Gorman is fatally shot near Loyola Chicago campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/19\/us-news\/new-york-teen-gunned-down-near-chicago-college-days-after-posting-fun-filled-pics-of-freshman-year\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">death of a\u00a0Loyola University Chicago\u00a0student <\/a>shot near campus Thursday by a masked gunman, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/03\/21\/loyola-chicago-shooting-suspect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Chicago Tribune reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Tribune said it had obtained the arrest report and was not naming the suspect, who sources tell Fox News is a\u00a0migrant from Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p>Sheridan Gorman, 18, of Westchester County, New York,\u00a0was gunned down while taking\u00a0a walk with friends shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday along Chicago\u2019s lakefront.<\/p>\n<p>The gunman allegedly approached the group, pulled out a gun, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/crime\/homicide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">opened fire<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 striking Gorman in the head, according to the Chicago Police Department.<\/p>\n<p>She was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>No other injuries were reported,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/crime\/police-and-law-enforcement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">according to police<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Records obtained by the Tribune state the suspect was identified minutes after the shooting due to his \u201cdistinct limp.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police have not yet confirmed if the man has been charged in relation to the Gorman investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Sheridan Gorman, 18, of Westchester County, New York,\u00a0was gunned down while taking\u00a0a walk with friends shortly after 1:30 a.m. on March 19, 2026.
