State Assemblyman Matt Slater (R-Yorktown) thanked law enforcement for apprehending the suspect, but slammed the immigration system for allowing an alleged dangerous individual to be in the country in the first place.

“We cannot lose sight of the fact that this is the second time a member of our community has been victimized by this type of violence,” Slater told The Post in a statement.

“Our immigration system is clearly broken and endangering innocent American citizens. No one should be a victim of a system that fails on multiple levels,” he added.

Slater was referring to the murder on Oct. 28, 2024, of 15-year-old Michael Raimondi at the hands of 40-year-old illegal migrant Fernando Jiminez.

“This was not inevitable. This was a choice. And our daughter paid the price for it,” the family said in a statement Sunday.

“Our daughter’s life was not expendable. She should still be here,” the statement continued.

A New York state lawmaker slammed America’s “clearly broken” immigration system after a Venezuelan migrant was arrested for…

[6
69874,57,3411,238,9,11,10,87,58
post-171570","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-new-york","tag-loyola","tag-metro","tag-migrants","tag-murders","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-headlines","tag-new-york-news","tag-politics","tag-us-news
["GET
