President Donald Trump is 100% right to use Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers <\/a>to supplement Transportation Security Administration agents at airports.<\/p>\n Trump announced the move after Democrats last week again refused to fund the Department of Homeland Security<\/a> \u2014 and as TSA lines at major airports<\/a> began snaking all the way into baggage claim and out the door.<\/p>\n In California, LAX and SFO have avoided the worst delays because they use private contractors. But travelers in San Diego were hit with unexpected, hours-long delays as the shutdown collided with Spring Break travel.<\/p>\n The Democrats hope to use the suffering of American travelers<\/a> to force Republicans to cave to their demands to kneecap ICE enforcement.<\/p>\n But the president played a . . . trump card.<\/p>\n \t\t\tMore From\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPost Editorial Board<\/p>\n One irony is that the shutdown doesn\u2019t affect ICE; it\u2019s funded through 2029, thanks to last year\u2019s \u201cOne Big, Beautiful Bill,\u201d which passed on a simple majority through the reconciliation process.<\/p>\n So ICE officers are being paid, but not TSA agents<\/a>. <\/p>\n A worse irony is that Dems\u2019 posturing over ICE translates to the shocking dereliction of duty of refusing to fund DHS while the country\u2019s at war, with constant terror threats and several actual recent attacks.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\tGet opinions and commentary from our columnists\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSubscribe to our daily Post Opinion newsletter!\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Adding a layer of chutzpah, the Democrats claim it\u2019s Trump who is being unreasonable by not bowing to their anti-ICE agenda.<\/p>\n ICE<\/a> does necessary work<\/a>: You can\u2019t have real border enforcement if you give a pass to anyone who slips by Border Patrol \u2014 or who willingly submits to being detained, so they can receive a court summons and then disappear.<\/p>\n Not to mention the \u201cmigrants\u201d who just stay illegally after their visas expire.<\/p>\n It\u2019s also no accident that crime has plummeted around the nation<\/a> over the past year, as ICE has been allowed to catch and deport thousands of foreign gangsters.<\/p>\n
